Well, here I am at The Greenporter Hotel in Greenport, NY, on the Eastern end of Long Island, for a meeting of wine bloggers called TasteCamp East.
The event is organized by Lenn Thompson, one of the top wine bloggers and an expert on the wines of New York and, more specifically, Long Island, where he lives – and obviously, drinks.
It will be a great occasion for me – and a good dozen other bloggers – to discover the region’s wines. After having tasted a Wölffer Estate Vineyards cabernet franc, last year, thanks to Lenn Thompson, I know there will be good cuvées to be found.
We’ll be visiting a total of seven wineries over the weekend – and tasting wine from at least a dozen more. The wineries we will be visiting are Roanoke, Paumanok, Shinn Estate, Bedell, Lenz, Wölffer and Channing Daughters, mostly on the North Fork, but also on the South Fork of this really, really long island.
I also brought some wine from Québec for my fellow bloggers to try. A chardonnay-seyval from Les Pervenches, one of the top wineries in Quebec. Can’t wait to see what they’ll think of this carefully-crafted organic cuvée. Who knows, maybe one day there will be a TasteCamp in Quebec.
The whole thing begins officially in a few moments with dinner at Raphael Vineyards, where we will be tasting merlot from that winery, as well as the Long Island Merlot Alliance.

Yep, Les Pervenches is organic. And if they can do it in Quebec, I’m sure it can be done in Long Island.
